First day of the rest of my life
May 12, 2008
Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Wow, what powerful words. Think about it, yesterday is dead and gone, tomorrow isn’t here yet, so that leaves us with today. What a wonderful gift. Each morning when we open our eyes we are given a wondrous gift. The gift of new beginnings, saying goodbye to old ideas or thoughts that held us down, a chance to start out new and fresh in the world that God created for us.
Think about it, Today is the FIRST day of the rest of our lives. It isn’t the last where there is no hope. It isn’t the middle where we may find ourselves bogged down and no escape. No It is the FIRST day, that leaves us so much room for growth and improvement. It is a time of such hope and renewal, all we have to do is grab it. To extend our hand and reach out and take hold of it with everything we have.
Yesterday I messed up, I failed at something, anything that I was trying to do. But today, It holds such promise and hope. Because today, I can deal with what went wrong or I can move to other avenues. We are not limited by what happened yesterday, yes it may still hurt or we may bring it along into today, but we are not limited to what was. There is a hope for what may be.
There is the chance to say, “I’m sorry.” and mend broken fences. There is the chance to say, “I am here for you”, to someone who needs it. There is the chance to say, “Thank you God for giving me one more day.” One more day, what a blessing that is. To wake up and know that for one more day I will be with the ones I love. One more day that I can see the beauty all around me and be lifted up. One more day to cook, clean, help with homework, see the beautiful faces of my kids, get them ready for bed; all those things that can exhaust me but full fill me at the same time. One more day to talk to my loving JB and feel that connection that I can in no way explain. To feel her close to me although miles separate us, to know she is thinking about me, to know that she is my special gift from God. One more day to experience the thrill of being connected to another human being on levels that transcend the ordinary.
One more day, I am not promised anything past the moment I am in. I am not promised a thousand more years to get it right. I am promised right now. And right now I love my family, my friends, my soul mate JB. Right now I am in a place of love. I pray that I can stay here for every day that I am given.
