Game junkie

June 4, 2008

Okay I have to admit that I am becoming a computer game junkie. I have sat here for 2 hours tonight trying to beat a game called bookworm deluxe. And it is with some pride that I tell you now that I beat it. I won the game and rescued Cassandra from the evil one. Does it make any difference in real life? Absolutely not. No one will care if I won a stupid game on the computer, but I care.

I care because I am in the throws of computer addiction. I care because a little green worm beat all of the bad guys and saved the day. I care because it is a nice distraction from the empty house. Oh and it gives me bragging rights to my kids. (I know they will be impressed). And I can rub it in my brother’s face that I beat his game before he did. Big Brother, if you are reading this and you have already beaten the game, just pretend for now that you haven’t. I need the feelings of accomplishment.

I am a procrastinator, I admit it freely. Hello my name is wvhillcountry and I procrastinate. I may have two weeks to finish a project but I will be up all night the day before it is due to finish it. Now I bet you are wondering what that has to do with the computer games……. Well, they are a great way for me to put off things that I don’t want to do. The dishes need washed? Well just one more game of free-cell. Scrub the floor or play a game of spider solitaire? (such a hard choice…NOT! ! ! ! !)

What amazes me is that the thing that I am trying to get out of will only take a few minutes to do. How long does it take to wash a sink full of dishes? 10 minutes if the pans need to soak. So why is it so hard to get off my butt and go do them? Oh and don’t get me started on laundry. I have no problem washing, drying, or even folding the clothes. But do I take 2 more minutes and put them away? Not without complaints and grumbling.

Please don’t take this wrong, my house is not filthy. I do clean, I do laundry, and I wash dishes on a regular basis. I just wait and put it off as long as possible. My house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be comfortable. My house also has a bucket of dirt on the counter since the youngest now has a pet worm. I guess you can say that my house is lived in.

I may think all day about what I am going to blog about, but to get the words typed? I usually end up late at night putting down the thoughts that swam in my head all day. I could have written this in the evening and gotten to bed at a decent hour last night. But no here I sit this morning finishing up the thoughts of yesterday. I would elaborate on that more….but free-cell is calling my name.

I hear you – lately, mahjog has been calling my name. (Oh, and “Heroes,” which I’m watching on my computer via Netflix’s “watch instantly” setup.)
